If you are reading this, you probably know that I’ve slowly but surly been adding more and more IoT smart devices to my home. Over the course of the weekend I added three Shelly 1 Plus devices to control our porch lights and the light in our sun room. The objective is to create an automation that turns them all on if an alarm sounds and/or we decide to trigger based on outside motion detection from our Ring lights. In any case, as I open up various switches and/or trace out which outlet/switch goes to which breaker, I am convinced that both the electrician who wired the house AND the previous home owner were absolute idiots.

Today I tried to locate the breaker for this sun room switch and found that it was tied to the refrigerator outlet breaker! Mind you it is nowhere close to the refer. Turns out the original electrician wired up all the sun room outlets and switches to this breaker. Stimpy you IDIOT. Then as depicted I found this switch where they thought it was a good idea to wrap two ground wires to the switch instead of properly pigtailing it and properly grounding the switch.

Then as you can see from this photo, the used the absolute garbage pinch connectors on the switch as well, something that I find all over the place in the house!
It’s not enough of a fire hazard to make me go over every box in the house and perform remedial electrical work, but it really does illustrate the “quality” you get from many spec home builders.
