Why no touchy?

I wonder why we need a “touch bar” on our new Mac Book. Could it be because macOS aka OS X is seriously long in the tooth and doesn’t support touch screens. https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/27/apple-unveils-a-thinner-macbook-pro-with-oled-touch-strip/
