Over the years I’ve collected a number of aged laptops that are of limited use as daily Windows 10/11 daily drivers due to inadequate hardware specs, worn out batteries, and/or mechanical issues like unreliable displays and keys. I’ve struggled with finding a real use for them as I have plenty of server horsepower already between the 3 full sized systems in my basement. Indeed, I have several Raspberry Pi’s that I have little use for due to the same reason… anything that runs on a Pi can usually be run easier/faster on my Unraid server as a Docker container. All that said, I think that ai have landed in a solid use case for an older Intel i5 spec laptop. I’ve loaded it with the latest version of Linux Mint Una (20.3) and RetroPie, turning it into a mobile retro gaming system!
