Have you ever wondered what’s inside that little white Ez-Pass box attached to your windshield… well no longer thanks to a handy Dremel tool. It’s a circuit board with one chip, a few passives, a build in antenna, and a big fat purple lithium battery.
We found out on the PA Turnpike during the Thanksgiving rush that this battery is only good for about “10 years.” It’s not replaceable. If you obtained your transponder prior 2007, you might want to replace it or risk having to buy one in the middle of BF nowhere like we did. Oh and if you do replace it, don’t just throw it in the trash… dispose of it properly like all other batteries please!
